The Nazca Rain Dance

She came by mule from Montezuma
And her long hair flowed.
The drought was spreading like a rumour
On a dusty road.

She wore a pair of tear drop earrings
That froze when Jesus wept
But the dance that she was miming
She was miming while she slept.

I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance. Cha cha.

She said she learnt it from a hermit
On a hill top in Peru.
And now she'd come back down to share it
With all those who search for truth.

So she danced it in the valleys
And she danced it in the towns.
And, if you listen very closely,
You'll hear her footsteps on the ground.

I heard her do the Nazca rain dance.
I heard her do the Nazca rain dance.
I heard her do the Nazca rain dance.
I heard her do the Nazca rain dance. Cha cha.

There was thunder in the distance
And storm clouds drawing nigh
When, like a band of seven sisters,
She danced across the sky.

It was frightening to the people
But their terror turned around.
For, when she pierced the vault of heaven,
The love of God came raining down.

I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance.
I saw her do the Nazca rain dance. Cha cha.

I said, "I'd like to learn your motion."
She said, "First you must shut your eyes.
'Cause when you dance upon the ocean
You will be dancing till you die."

At first it seemed a little shoddy,
I could not loose the bonds that bind.
But there's no need to use your body
Because you dance it with your mind. Cha cha.

You've got to learn it from a hermit.
You've got to learn it from a hermit.
You've got to learn it from a hermit.
You've got to learn it from a hermit. Cha cha.
